About our Head of School

Mr. J. Ross Peters is the Head of School at St. George's Independent School, having moved to Memphis in 2015 from Atlanta, where he served as Head of Upper School at The Westminster Schools. Previously at Hawken School in Cleveland, Ohio and Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina, he began his career as an English teacher and a tennis and lacrosse coach at Providence Day School in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Ever the educator, Mr. Peters' most cherished professional accomplishment is being named one of only 26 Georgia STAR teachers this spring, having been nominated by a former student. The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's highest achieving high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. The STAR award is the highest honor a teacher can receive in the state of Georgia.

Compelling factors for Mr. Peters in moving to take the position at St. George’s included the school's distinctive mission and the chance to make a lasting contribution to the greater community. "This rare school is uniquely positioned to help students become the adults that will contribute to and lead an exciting and challenging global society," says Mr. Peters.
