Dear St. George's Community:
The process to identify and select an outstanding new Head of School for St. George’s Independent School is now well under way. Our Search Committee is composed of ten trustees and chaired by David Skudder, dedicated St. George’s board member and parent. Assisting the Search Committee is an Advisory Committee, chaired by Andy Cowan ‘71 and Lori Williamson, Director of Academic Achievement and Assessment. The Advisory Committee is composed of a variety of stakeholders representing a broad cross-section of the St. George’s community, including parents, students, alumni, and employees. Please see the full committee listing on this page.
Together, these two committees will work with two partners, Marcus D. Hurlbut and Edward C. ("Ned") Becker, from Educators’ Collaborative to craft the optimum process and timeline for a national search. Educators’ Collaborative is a highly regarded firm specializing in executive searches for independent schools. As former heads of independent schools and search consultants, both Marc and Ned have a great deal of experience in working with schools very similar to St. George’s. Through personal meetings with Educators' Collaborative staff as well as an online survey, St. George's constituents have had the opportunity to share their opinions about the strengths and weaknesses of the school and the qualities sought in a new school president. In addition, we will use this web page to keep our community updated with regard to the timeline and steps of the search process.
One final note: the title of the position will change from "School President" to "Head of School." Past history and naming conventions had necessitated the "President" title for Bill Taylor; however the "Head of School" title is in keeping with current independent school terminology and accurately reflects both the present and future duties of the position. We are entering an exciting chapter in St. George’s history. We recognize our unique history and our distinctive school culture. Our pledge is to find the best candidate to move St. George’s forward to claim its very bright future.
Sincerely, Paul N. Horne, Chairman of the Board
