The spring semester at St. George’s is always a busy time, but it’s especially busy for all of our athletes and coaches. We have ten teams competing this spring, and they’ll need the support of our Gryphon family! Keep reading to learn more about our must-watch athletes and what to expect from each team and their sport.
On the track, our boys and girls teams are eager to line up on the starting blocks for this year’s season. Seniors Will Johns, Zach Williams and Jaylen Spears along with sophomore Jack Lange return from last year’s championship 3200 relay team to defend their title. Sophomore Allison Newman, a distance runner, is also one to watch this season. These meets aren’t to be missed!
Our softball and baseball teams will be a highlight this spring as well. We’re anticipating a great baseball season with junior Ole Miss commit Regan Burford and senior Belmont commits Andy Bean and Carter Park leading the team. In softball, pay special attention to senior Lindsey Pepper on the field. We’d also like to welcome Dr. Kyle Capstick as our new softball coach! Coach Capstick is a 2008 SGIS graduate and is excited to return to her Gryphon family. Check out our previous blog post to learn more about her.
Co-ed water polo is always a favorite! Be sure to check out junior Sam Tremain as goalie. We’d also like to welcome head coach Robyn Fernandez to the team! You can learn more about her here.
Soccer will also be back this spring! Senior Aiden Tanzer and sophomore Carston Haddad are sure to be standouts.
Rounding out our wrap-up of spring sports are the boys and girls tennis and lacrosse teams. In tennis, sophomore Walker Stearns and senior Hannah Grace Howell are ready to serve and spike their way to success this season. Boys lacrosse anticipates the return of 11 (yes, 11!) seniors – Cannon Foulds, Kyle Gassaway, Cameron Head, Alfred Johnson, Jackson Lee, Preston Truelove, Cameron Turner, Colton Turner, Steven White, Alec White and Tyler Wilson. Be sure to come out and see what will be an amazing show of teamwork and athletic prowess. Girls lacrosse features senior Vanderbilt commit Kate Murphy. We’d also like to welcome Kayleigh Pearson as the new head coach! Read more about her here.
Each team has been working diligently to prepare for their upcoming games and matches. We’re excited to see all of their hard work put into action when they begin competition. Be sure to come out and support your fellow Gryphons!
