St. George’s Girls Golf Teams Wins First Ever State Title
The St. George's Independent School girl’s golf team and coach Mary Lou Johns won their first ever DII-A state title in school history last week. Led by eighth grader Victoria England and senior Sarah Moon, the Lady Gryphons shot (+37) in two days to defeat runner-up University School of Jackson (+70). After the first day, St. George's took a ten shot lead into the final round over USJ and a twenty-one shot lead over St. Mary's. The five competing teams never threatened the Lady Gryphons lead as England (81) and Moon (83) shot the two low rounds of day two. England shot a combined (161) over the two days to capture the individual title while Moon finished second overall with a total of (164).
