Coach Netherland graduated with a B.S. in Physical Education from the University of Mississippi and an M.Ed. from the University of Memphis. He has been the varsity head football coach for St. George's since 2003. Prior to coaching at St. George's, Coach Netherland coached at Westwood High School for two years, Hillcrest High School for seven years, and Germantown High School for 18 years. He has had many honors over the years including: won 23 league/district/region titles; won 2 state titles (one with Germantown and one with the Gryphons in 2007) and 6 state runner-up finishes; named Commercial Appeal Best of Preps Coach of the Year 3 times; TACA Coach of the Year; National High School Coach of the Year; District 7-5A Coach of the Year 1994-1999; Shelby County Coach of the Year in 2003; was the first ever Head Coach for the Kentucky-Tennessee All-Star Game and the first recipient of the Shelby County Lifetime Achievement Award for Athletics; named to the National High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2000; received the Rex Dockery Memorial Award in 1987. He is also in second place for the coach with the most football wins for the state of Tennessee.
